Jaundice and Human Milk Feeding
Explanation of types of jaundice and its assessment and management.
As a lactation professional, you will encounter babies with jaundice—by some estimates, as many as 40 percent of human milk fed infants develop it. But just because it’s common does not mean it is simple. How confident are you in your ability to assess, strategize for treatment, and educate parents about this potentially serious condition?
In a clear, step-by-step manner, this course explains what you need to know about jaundice. Sekeita Lewis-Johnson, DNP, FNP-BC, IBCLC, accredited provider program director and instructor for LER, starts with the basic physiology of the condition, laying a solid foundation of understanding.
Learners will also BEcome familiar with risk factors, assessment, prevention, and management of jaundice. Lewis-Johnson closes with an explanation of the critical role lactation professionals play in keeping exclusive breastfeeding rates high in their setting while reducing the risk of jaundice.
As Lewis-Johnson says, “Often, parents are told their baby has jaundice with little or no explanation. Please take the time to discuss and explain and answer questions, because jaundice is not an everyday word.” With this course, you’ll have the tools to provide the answers, explanations, and support families need.
