Leslie Southard, pharmacist and Certified Breastfeeding Specialist with a career focus on medication during lactation, walks you through the many gel dressings and nipple creams marketed to new parents, both over-the-counter and by prescription. She explains the ingredients, effects, and indications for use, as well as concerns and contraindications. Southard also covers compounds, herbal preparations, and non-pharmacological tools for nipple pain and trauma (silverettes, shells, and low-laser therapy). Most importantly, Southard clarifies the need to find and address the root cause of nipple pain and trauma.
