Lactation Certification Training

A lactation credential builds naturally on your midwifery foundation. LER provides everything you need to earn yours.

Become an IBCLC

The IBCLC is the highest credential in the lactation profession. It allows you to manage complex lactation cases independently, expands your scope of care, and can add a meaningful income stream to your practice.

Your midwifery credential already qualifies as an IBLCE-approved health profession, which means Pathway 1 is open to you. LER provides the lactation-specific education hours and exam preparation you need to get there.

Become a CBS

The Certified Breastfeeding Specialist credential builds on the lactation training you already bring to your practice, adding structured clinical skills designed for home birth and birth center care. A strong foundation for midwives who want confidence in common postpartum feeding scenarios.

Free Guide: Your Path to Adding Lactation Credentials

Not sure where to start? We made a guide for that. The Midwife’s Guide to Lactation Education is a free resource designed specifically for midwives exploring lactation training. It covers IBCLC and CBS pathways, how your midwifery credential counts toward eligibility, what training actually looks like around an on-call schedule, and how to figure out which path fits where you are right now.

It's free. It's yours. And it's a great place to start.

Why LER?

LER has been training lactation professionals for nearly 30 years. Many of us on staff are IBCLCs ourselves. We know what it takes to develop these skills, and we know what it feels like to be in a room with a struggling family and wish you knew more.

That's why we build our courses the way we do: evidence-based, clinically grounded, and designed for practitioners who are already doing the work and want to do it even better.

Wherever this journey takes you, we'll be there for it.
