Preparation for lactation professionals
Price: $24.00 USD

Worldwide, disasters are becoming more frequent and more severe. If an emergency strikes your community, will you know how to help? This course provides the background, specific information, and skills you need to assist the most vulnerable populations during a disaster – pregnant, postpartum, and lactating people and their infants and young children. You’ll learn:

  • How to promote and protect human milk feeding in emergencies.
  • How infant formula should be managed and distributed in emergencies.
  • Safe feeding practices in emergencies, including safer formula feeding.
  • Supplies families need to be prepared for an emergency.
  • Exploration of key international publications and guidance.
  • Discussion and videos to ensure you have the critical lactation support skills needed in an emergency and can teach them to parents (hand expression, cup feeding, safe handling and storage of human milk, and safe milk sharing).

Instructor Malaika Ludman, MPH, CLC, spent several years managing a community-based preparedness program in New Orleans, LA (USA) which provides information and tools to support pregnant and postpartum people and their families. Teaching from deep personal experience, Ludman uses recent global scenarios to explore IYCF-E, including the Covid-19 pandemic. Her course will leave you prepared and confident in your ability to support breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding families in an emergency.
