Seasoned IBCLCs show you how to perform the job’s most critical hands-on skills, from connecting with clients and assessing problems to cleaning a pump and applying a nipple shield.

Clinical Skills Online combines four courses, six case studies, and a video series, all focusing on the essential clinical skills lactation providers need. It also offers opportunities to practice through case studies and application questions. You’ll leave this course feeling confident–it’s like working side by side with a group of veteran IBCLCs, soaking up their expertise!

Included in the course:

      • Anatomy of a Lactation Consult. Put together all of the info you have learned and see how it applies to an actual consultation situation.
      • Essentials of Positioning and Latch. Feel confident evaluating and coaching your client with positioning and latch.
      • Mastering the Art of Virtual Lactation Support. Learn how to do great online consults, including how to evaluate oral-motor structure and function, nipple damage, milk transfer, and milk supply via video call.
      • Case Studies. Given six case studies exploring diverse lactation situations, you will assess a couplet, create a plan of care, and follow up to see if your recommendations were successful.
      • Clinical Skills Videos. Demonstrations and in-depth explanation of breast shells and shields, finger feeding, paced bottle feeding, hand expression, and breast pumps. Also covers how to examine a lactating breast, do a test weigh, and conduct an oral assessment.
      • Continuity of Care and the Community. Focuses on discharge planning, analyzing gaps in care, providing recommendations to increase continuity of care where you work, and improving relationships with all the communities you serve.

Instructors:

      • Angela Love-Zaranka, BA, IBCLC, RLC, Program Director at LER has been an IBCLC for 25 years. She has operated a busy private practice and created and managed an active lactation service in a hospital, and has taught for LER for several years.
      • Dalaney Young, BS-MCH, IBCLC, has spent more than a decade providing lactation support in hospital and private practice settings.
      • Robin Kaplan, M.Ed.,IBCLC, has been the owner of the San Diego Breastfeeding Center since 2009 and an instructor and clinical site manager since 2013 through UCSD.
      • Jennifer Day, IBCLC, CLE, CLS, RLC, BD, has more than a decade of experience helping lactating families, first as a WIC Peer Counselor and now as an IBCLC in private practice. She has worked in community and hospital settings, providing individual and group support, and has served as a lead mentor in a Pathway 3 mentorship program.
      • Sekeita Lewis Johnson, DNP, FNP-BC, IBCLC, is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, lactation consultant, and birth doula. She has 20 years’ experience in labor and delivery and maternal-child nursing, is one of the Founding Members of Southeast Michigan IBCLCs of Color, and is the owner of Mommy and Me Lactation Consulting, LLC.
