I am a family physician practicing in central New York in the United States. Locally, my county has a high rate of breastfeeding and within my practice, the rates of breastfeeding to at least a year are extremely high. I can go weeks without talking about formula in a visit but cannot go a day without a breastfeeding question. Many of the dyads in my practice are nursing to a year or well beyond. It is not uncommon that I get a question about breastfeeding and preschool or kindergarten.
